What are my distance options?

You have four distinct ways to participate. For the purists, there is the Half Marathon (8:00 AM) and the 10K (8:15 AM) on Saturday. If you want a social vibe, the "Trick or Trot" 5K on Friday evening is a festive way to kick things off. For the high-volume weekend warriors, the Red River Double allows you to tackle both the 5K and the Half Marathon (or the 5K and 10K) for a slight discount.

What is the terrain like?

Expect a fast, rhythmic effort. About 90% of the course is tucked away on the Red River bike paths, meaning you’ll be running through the heart of the Fargo–Moorhead community on smooth, paved surfaces. It isn't going to test your climbing legs, but it is perfect for maintaining a steady tempo without constant gear changes.

Should I prepare for extreme weather?

October in North Dakota is a gamble. While the race is in mid-October, you need to be ready for anything from crisp, perfect running weather to biting winds coming off the Red River. I’d recommend a light layer for the start line that you can easily shed once your heart rate climbs.

How much am I going to spend?

The pricing is fairly standard for a well-organized regional event. The Half Marathon sits at approximately $100, and the 10K is around $68. If you are doing the double, you can save about $10 by bundling. It’s a fair price for a race that utilizes significant municipal infrastructure like the river paths.

How is the race day organized?

The hub is the Fargo Civic Center. For the Saturday races, packet pickup is tight (6:30 AM – 7:30 AM), so don't show up late if you want to avoid the pre-race scramble. Water stations are positioned along the courses, but since the route is river-centric, the wind can occasionally make the stretches between aid stations feel longer than they actually are.
