There is also a 1-mile option for families. All in-person distances utilize wave starts between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM to prevent the "human traffic jam" effect. If you aren't in SF, there is a virtual option to keep the theme alive from home.

What is the terrain actually like?

Since the hub is Fort Mason, expect paved, urban waterfront paths. You'll be running along the San Francisco Bay, which usually means a course that is mostly flat or has very gentle, rolling undulations. There is no official chip timing, so if you are trying to track a personal best, you must rely on your own GPS watch or a running app. It is designed to be "stress-free," which is code for "relaxed and unhurried."
