This historic IAU Bronze Label road race ascends from the city center of Pistoia through the Apennine mountains toward the Abetone mountain resort. Participants can expect typical late June weather in Tuscany, which often features warm to hot temperatures in the valleys and milder, potentially variable conditions in the higher altitudes of the mountains. This 49th edition marks the return of the classic 52 km distance, offering a challenging uphill experience through scenic landscapes such as the Pian di Novello Biogenetic Reserve.

Where can I find the route details?

You can view the detailed course map via Google Maps . The 52 km route is a purely uphill road race. For the 2026 edition, the final section has been revised: at km 38 near Ponte Sestaione, the route transitions from the SS12 to the SP20, passing through Pian degli Ontani and Pian di Novello before rejoining the state road 3 km before the finish at Fontana Vaccaia. Note that the segment between Ponte Calcaiola and Le Piastre (km 5–14) is closed to traffic between 7:30 AM and 10:00 AM.

Is there prize money for winners?

Yes, prize money is awarded for the 52 km race finishing in Abetone for the top 5 men and women. The breakdown is as follows:

  • 1st Place: €1,000 (overall) + €250 (for Italian athletes)
  • 2nd Place: €400 + €100
  • 3rd Place: €250 + €50
  • 4th Place: €200 + €50
  • 5th Place: €150 + €50
