This will be the 26th edition of the Ålesund New Year's Marathon, having begun on December 31, 1999. The first winner was Leif Feøy. The event was unfortunately canceled in 2001 due to severe weather conditions.

What is the course like?
The course follows Old Brusdalsvei past Reiakvam, over a footbridge, and down to the main road. Runners complete an out-and-back loop. The marathon involves two loops, while the half marathon completes one.
Is the course challenging?
The course is generally flat and easy-running. There is one gentle, but persistent, uphill section of approximately 600m on the return leg near Viddal Gartneri (Hageland), about 4 km from the finish.
What is the course surface?
The entire course is run on an asphalt surface.
What safety precautions should runners be aware of?
Runners will cross a highway via a pedestrian crossing approximately 600m from the start. Participants should remain vigilant of traffic, even with marshals present. A lead car or cyclist will accompany the front runners in the marathon and half marathon.

The awards ceremony will take place in the basement of Spjelkavik Church at 3:00 PM on race day.

All finishers will receive a completion medal in the finish area.
What prizes are awarded?
Trophies are awarded to the class winners. Prizes are also given to the overall winners of the marathon and half marathon. For the 5 km race, prizes are awarded to the top male and female finishers.
Where do the event profits go?
All profits from the 2025 Ålesund New Year's Marathon will be donated to Kirkens Nødhjelp (Norwegian Church Aid).
