Capitol City Chase 5k, 10k, & Half

The 2026 Capitol City Chase 5K, 10K & Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in the scenic Georgetown area of Washington, D.C. Participants will navigate the historic C&O Canal towpath, a mixed-terrain course consisting of light gravel and dirt paths. Late May in the Washington area typically brings mild to warm spring temperatures, though runners should be prepared for varying humidity levels common to the Potomac River region. This event offers a range of distances suitable for different fitness levels, all set against the backdrop of the Nation's Capital.

What distances are available and when do they start?

• →Half Marathon: 6:30 AM
• →10K: 6:45 AM
• →5K: 7:00 AM

What are the course details for each distance?

• →Half Marathon: An out-and-back route (traversed twice) starting and finishing in Georgetown near the Potomac Boat Club. The terrain is light gravel/dirt with minimal elevation change.
• →10K: A single out-and-back route on the C&O Canal path starting and finishing at Fletcher's Boathouse. The course is flat with light gravel and no major elevation gains.
• →5K: An out-and-back route on the C&O Canal path starting and finishing at Fletcher's Boathouse. The course is flat with light gravel and no major elevation gains.

What are the time limits and course closures?

• →Half Marathon: 3:15 completion time limit; the "Back of the Pack" time is 12:00 PM.
• →10K: The "Back of the Pack" time is 11:00 AM.
• →5K: The "Back of the Pack" time is 11:00 AM.

How much does registration cost?

• →5K: $35 until May 15; $40 after May 15; +$5 on race morning (Note: No on-site registration available).
• →10K: $50 until May 15; $55 after May 15; +$5 on race morning (Note: No on-site registration available).
• →Half Marathon: $70 until May 15; $75 after May 15; +$5 on race morning (Note: No on-site registration available).

Who is eligible for awards?

• →Overall Top 3 Men and Women.
• →Age Group Awards (1st and 2nd place Male/Female): 19&Under, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+.
• →Note: Overall top 3 finishers are not eligible for age group awards.

Does this event contribute to any series or charities?
