What are my distance options and when do they start?

You have four main ways to participate: a 1 Mile Family Fun Run, a 5K, a 10K, and a 13.1-mile Half Marathon. All distances operate within a staggered start window between 7:30 AM and 10:30 AM CDT using a wave system (Wave A at 7:30, B at 8:00, and C at 8:30). For most runners, the 10K or the Half Marathon offers the best balance of scenic mileage and manageable effort, especially since the waves are kept small to prevent crowding.

What should I expect from the course?

The route utilizes the Chicago Lakefront Trail, which is a paved, multi-use path. It is exceptionally flat and fast, making it a dream for beginners or those wanting a steady aerobic effort. However, be warned: because this is a public trail and not a fully closed-road course, you will likely encounter other cyclists, walkers, and joggers. It’s a beautiful, open environment with constant views of Lake Michigan, but don't expect a sterile, "pro-only" racing corridor.

What is the weather situation like in June?

June in Chicago can be a wildcard. While you can expect pleasant temperatures in the 60s or low 70s (F), the Lakefront Trail is notorious for its wind. Even on a calm day, the breeze off Lake Michigan can be biting in the early morning or surprisingly warm as the sun hits the water. Bring light layers that you can easily shed once you find your rhythm.

What do I get for my registration?

The "swag" is decent for a community event. You’ll receive a running T-shirt (shipped within the US), a finisher medal, and either a finisher towel or another small giveaway. You also get a digital training pack and access to local run clubs via Thebestraces ↗. If you want to save a few bucks and skip the gear, they offer an "Eco Registration" option without the shirt.

How organized is the race day experience?

This is a "low-pressure" event, which is code for: don't expect massive timing tents or elite athlete hospitality. There is no official chip timing, so you will need to rely on your own GPS watch (Strava, Garmin, etc.) to track your performance. You can submit your results manually to Thebestraces ↗ if you want them recorded. It’s a relaxed, wave-based setup designed to keep things moving without the chaos of a massive mass start.
