What are my distance options and which one should I pick?

You have four choices: a 1-mile family run, a 5K, a 10K, and a 13.1-mile Half Marathon. Because the event uses waves (starting between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM), you won't be fighting through a massive crowd. If you are looking for a solid training session, the Half Marathon is the best bet—it’s a straightforward, flat out-and-back that lets you settle into a rhythm without the stress of a ticking clock.

What is the terrain like on the course?

The course is situated on the Chicago Lakefront Trail, which means you are running on fully paved, smooth, multi-use paths. It is exceptionally flat. Expect stunning views of Lake Michigan and stretches of the city skyline. It’s a "pure" running experience—no technical turns or sudden hills—just consistent, rhythmic pavement.

Will I be fighting the heat on race morning?

June in Chicago can be a wildcard. While the lake breeze helps, temperatures can climb quickly once the sun is up. Since the waves start early (7:30 AM), you'll likely beat the worst of the humidity, but I’d recommend light, breathable gear. Don't overdress; the lakefront can feel much warmer than the city center once you're moving.
