Ridge to Rails 2026
Ridge to Rails 2026 takes place on June 6, 2026, in the scenic landscape of Old Fort, North Carolina. Participants will navigate a variety of terrains, including smooth singletrack, technical sections, dirt roads, and gravel stretches. In early June, the Old Fort area typically experiences warm to hot summer temperatures with moderate humidity, making hydration and sun protection essential for all runners. The event features three distinct race distances designed to test different skill levels, from beginner-friendly loops to demanding long-distance mountain climbs and descents.
What distances and start times are available?
- →50k: Starts at 7:00 AM (11-hour time limit)
- →Half Marathon (13 miles): Starts at 8:30 AM (4-hour time limit)
- →10k: Starts at 9:15 AM (2.5-hour time limit)
What are the course details for the 50k?
The 50k consists of one large loop through Mill Creek Valley with approximately 5,700 feet of elevation gain and loss. The route utilizes Jarrett Creek Rd, Star Gap Trail, Mill Creek Rd, Bernard Mtn Rd/Trail, Point Lookout Trail, Kitsuma Trail, Copper Ridge Trail, Rostan Trail, and Salt Gap Trail. Runners can expect fast downhills on Star Gap, Bernard Mtn, and Kitsuma, along with a mix of technical and smooth terrain. There are 5 aid stations located throughout the course.
What are the course details for the Half Marathon?
The Half Marathon is a net downhill, point-to-point course covering 13 miles with approximately 1,200 feet of gain and 2,600 feet of loss. The route begins at Point Lookout TH on Mill Creek Rd gravel, climbs via Bernard Mtn Rd, descends the scenic Bernard Mtn Trail, follows Point Lookout Trail (paved), and traverses Copper Ridge Trail before finishing on the smooth Old Fort Gateway trails. There are 2 aid stations located at mile 5.6 and mile 9.5.
What are the course details for the 10k?
The 10k is a beginner-friendly figure-8 loop located within the Old Fort Gateway system. The course features nearly all the new, smooth, and runnable trails with short gravel links, characterized by gradual grades. There is 1 aid station located at mile 3.
What are the race rules and etiquette?
- →Participants must stay on marked trails and are prohibited from cutting switchbacks.
- →Runners must check all designated aid stations.
- →Proper trail etiquette must be observed, specifically yielding to mountain bikers.
- →Littering is strictly prohibited.
- →Pacers and spectators are not permitted at the Half Marathon start.
- →If a runner decides to drop from the race, they must inform officials and return their bib.
What is the packet pickup schedule?
- →Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hillman Brewery, Old Fort, NC.
- →Race morning starting at 6:00 AM at Camp Grier.
What is the refund policy?
- →75% refund available until March 1st.
- →50% refund available until April 15th.
- →No refunds are provided after April 15th.

Where can spectators watch the race?
- →Spectators are permitted at the finish line and at Jarrett Creek Rd (which requires a 1-mile hike from the finish).
