What is the terrain actually like?

The marathon is a point-to-point dream on the Olympic Discovery Trail. It is ~99% paved, wide, and smooth—ideal for those chasing a Boston qualifier. You’ll spend the early miles under a forest canopy with mountain views, but the real magic happens in the final five miles along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Which distance should I choose?

The Full Marathon is the crown jewel here, starting at 7:30 AM from 7 Cedars Resort. The Half Marathon starts at 8:30 AM from Agnew Soccer Fields and joins the full course for that spectacular coastal finish. If you aren't looking for a heavy endurance test, the 5K and 10K are held on Saturday, June 6, starting at 11:00 AM at the City Pier. For the best "big race" atmosphere, go for the full or half; the shorter distances feel more like a local community celebration.

What should I expect regarding the weather?

June in Port Angeles is generally reliable but can be deceptive. Expect cool temperatures between 13–18°C (55–65°F). You’ll likely start in a chill, especially in the forested sections, so a light, disposable layer is your friend. The wildcard is the coastal breeze during the final miles—it can feel refreshing or turn into a headwind that tests your resolve right when you're hitting the wall.

How do I handle the race day logistics?

Don't plan on driving your car to the start line. Shuttles are required for access, particularly for the half marathon, as parking at the start points is limited. Aid stations are well-placed roughly every 2 miles for the long distances, which is sufficient for most. For bib pickup, head to the Red Lion Hotel in Port Angeles on June 5 or 6.
