What is the format of the Needles 50K?

The event is a self-supported, unsupported "fatass"-style trail ultra. This means there are no aid stations, no course markings, no provided swag, and no sponsors. Runners are responsible for their own nutrition, hydration, and navigation. The entry fee reflects this minimal support model.

What distances are available?

• →50K: The primary mountain loop featuring approximately 10,000 feet of elevation gain.
• →25K: A drop-down option primarily intended for 50K runners who choose to shorten their distance. Standalone 25K registration may be available after May 1st if space permits.

What are the course details and route?

The course is a single, burly loop that connects Domerie Divide, Thomas Mountain, French Cabin Mountain, Little Joe Lake, Thorp Mountain, Kachess Ridge (the Cardiac Needles), and Silver Creek. The difficulty is classified as a "graduate level mountain run."

How is navigation handled?

There are no course markings. A GPX track will be emailed to participants at least one week before the event. Runners must pre-load this GPX track into a map application and carry a phone for navigation. To verify the finish, runners must:

• →Provide a selfie at the summit of Thorp Mountain (out-and-back verification).
• →Provide selfies at various random locations along the course.
• →Submit their GPX track to confirm full course coverage.

Where can I find water on the course?

There are no aid stations; however, natural water sources are available. Water filtering is strongly recommended. Available sources include:
