What is the route actually like?

Expect monotony. This is not a point-to-point course where the scenery evolves as you run. The 5K and 10K use a single out-and-back loop, while the Half Marathon forces you to repeat a 3.28-mile loop four times. While this makes navigation impossible to mess up and turns it into a perfect time trial for pacing practice, it can be a mental grind if you aren't prepared for the repetition. How much am I going to pay?

The pricing is quite reasonable for a US road race, making it an easy "yes" for local runners or those on a budget. The 5K is $30, the 10K is $45, and the Half Marathon is $65. There is also a $5 youth discount for those aged 1–15. It’s solid value, especially given the series points and the themed medals.

Will I get a cool medal?

What should I expect regarding the weather?

June in Virginia is a gamble. By the 8:30 AM start time, the humidity is likely already climbing. While you might catch a breeze in the early morning, the heat can become oppressive quickly. Bring lightweight, moisture-wicking gear and don't expect a crisp, cool autumn run.

What are my distance options?

You have three choices, all starting at 8:30 AM. The 5K is a quick sprint, the 10K is a solid mid-distance effort, and the Half Marathon is the main event. If you want the most "bang for your buck" in terms of race experience and time on feet, go for the Half, but be prepared for those four repetitive loops.
