Emerald Isle Marathon 2026

What are my distance options and when do they start?

You have three choices here: the full Marathon (7:00 AM), the Half Marathon (8:35 AM), or the 5K (8:45 AM). If you are chasing a Boston Qualifier, the Marathon is the main event, but the Half Marathon is arguably the sweet spot for most serious club runners looking for a fast time without the 30,000-step toll.

What should I expect regarding the weather?

Late October on the North Carolina coast is beautiful but deceptive. You’ll likely see mild temperatures in the 60s or 70s (F) at gun time, but that coastal humidity can still creep up on you as the sun rises. Bring light, moisture-wicking gear and prepare for a sea breeze that might feel refreshing at mile 5 but a bit chilly if you're standing around waiting for the halfway mark.

How much is this going to cost me?

The pricing is remarkably fair for a USATF-sanctioned event: $100 for the Marathon, $80 for the Half, and $35 for the 5K. It’s a steal considering 100% of the proceeds go to the local Bike and Pedestrian Path and the Carteret Healthcare Foundation.

How do I actually get to the start line?

You’ll likely fly into Wilmington (ILM) or perhaps Morehead City, but be prepared for a bit of a drive to reach the Crystal Coast. Once you arrive, try to stay as close to the Western Ocean Regional Access area as possible. This isn't a massive metropolitan race, so you don't want to spend your race morning navigating transit; stick to the local coastal inns to keep things simple.

Is the registration worth the effort?

The event is currently full, and the marathon waiting list has closed, so you'll need to jump on the next one immediately. If you can snag a spot, it is worth every cent for the combination of a legitimate qualifying course and the charity impact. Check Emerald Isle ↗ for any last-minute openings.
