Don't let the "pasture" description fool you into thinking this is a flat meadow run. You are at the foot of Mount Mansfield, and the elevation reflects that. The 50K features roughly 5,000 feet of gain and loss over two loops of a 25K course. The trails are primarily wide, hard-packed dirt, which is great for maintaining a steady pace, but the "rolling" nature means you’ll be constantly working your quads on the descents and your lungs on the climbs. It’s rhythmic, not technical, but it is relentless.

What should I expect regarding the weather in June?

June in Stowe is beautiful but unpredictable. Expect morning temperatures in the 50s°F (10-15°C) with the potential to climb into the 70s°F (21-25°C) by early afternoon. Since the course is somewhat exposed in the highland pastures, sun protection is non-negotiable. Keep an eye on the forecast for Vermont's classic summer afternoon thunderstorms—they can turn a hard-packed trail into a slip-and-slide very quickly.

How much is this going to cost me?

The pricing is tiered, so if you're planning to run, don't wait. The 50K starts at $135 but jumps to $145 after April 30, and hits $160 on race day. The 25K starts at $115, increasing to $125 after April 30, and $140 on the day. Given the quality of the Trapp Family Lodge venue and the organization, it’s a fair price, but the "day-of" premium is steep. What are the race day logistics and aid station setups?

This is a cup-free race, so if you forget your handheld flask or hydration vest bladder, you're going to have a bad time. There are three aid stations per loop (Mile 4.6, 9.4, and the start/finish). They stock standard ultra fuel, but you need to bring your own vessel. For the 50K runners, drop bags are permitted at the start/finish area only. There is a strict 9-hour cutoff for the 50K and a 4:00 PM course closure for everyone.

How do I get to the start line and where should I stay?

The race is centered at the Trapp Family Lodge. For international travelers, Burlington International Airport (BTV) is your closest major hub, followed by a drive into the Stowe area. The pre-race packet pickup is at the Von Trapp Brewery, which is a great way to settle in the night before. I highly recommend booking accommodation in Stowe well in advance, as the area fills up fast during the summer season.

Is there anything I should know about the course before I go?

If you go for a preview run, watch your step around the livestock. There are fenced areas with cattle and bulls; stay on the marked trails.
