Ameris Bank Jacksonville Marathon 2026

What is the course actually like?

It is unapologetically flat. You won't find any punishing climbs here, which is a dream for those chasing a qualifying time or a PB. The route starts at The Bolles School, heads north, loops through the Mandarin area, and then hugs the St. Johns River on the way back. The standout feature is the shade; roughly 85% of the course is covered, which is a massive relief if the Florida humidity decides to show up anyway.

What should I expect regarding the weather?

December in Jacksonville is generally pleasant, but it’s a wildcard. Expect crisp morning air—likely in the 50s or low 60s (°F)—but don't get complacent. If the sun hits that 15% of unshaded road, it will warm up quickly. Bring a light layer for the 7:00 AM start, but you’ll want to strip it down before you hit the first turn.

How do I handle the logistics of getting there?

You’ll likely fly into Jacksonville International Airport (JAX). Getting to the start at The Bolles School is straightforward, but I recommend staying near San Jose Blvd or the Mandarin area to minimize travel time on race morning. The organization is solid, with hydration stations every two miles and mile markers/clocks placed reliably throughout the route.

Which distance should I choose?

The Marathon and Half Marathon are the main events and offer the most "race day" atmosphere. If you aren't ready for the long haul, the 5K is a solid option, though it only utilizes the first 5km of the main course and finishes on San Jose Boulevard. For a true testing ground, the Half Marathon is the sweet spot here.
