What are the relay race rules and logistics?

  • Relay Runner #1: Starts with the open half marathon, wears a front bib, a right-ankle tri chip, and a generic "RELAY" bib on the rear of their shirt.
  • Relay Runner #2: Must go to the halfway exchange zone at Gordon’s Pond in Rehoboth Beach, receive the tri chip from the first runner, and finish wearing the matching front bib, right-ankle chip, and rear "RELAY" bib.
  • Transportation: Participants are responsible for their own transportation between the start/finish in Lewes and the exchange zone in Rehoboth; carpooling is highly recommended.
  • Timing: Second runners should aim to arrive at Gordon's Pond 15 minutes before their partner's scheduled pace.

What awards and amenities are provided?

  • Race Amenities: Long sleeve race shirts and a post-race party with refreshments at Irish Eyes.
  • Half Marathon Awards: Finisher medals are provided for all individual open division finishers. Custom awards are presented to Overall, Master, and the top three finishers in specific age groups.
  • 5K Awards: Custom awards for Overall, Master, and top three finishers in various age groups (from age 9 & under to 80+).
  • Relay Awards: Custom awards for the top 5 teams in the Male, Female, and Co-Ed divisions.

What are the course rules and safety requirements?

  • Participants must follow the marked course indicated by arrows and cones; cutting the course results in disqualification.
  • Runners must stay on the designated side of the road.
  • Bicycles and unregistered runners are not permitted to pace participants.
  • The use of headphones is discouraged; if used, they must be kept at a low volume with only one ear open.
  • Half Marathon Cut-off: A pace limit of 13:44 per mile (approximately 8:32/km) with a total time limit of 3 hours.
