What is the history and tradition behind the Turkey Trot?

The Five Star Thanksgiving Turkey Trot was established in 2011 as a way to thank race participants by offering a free running event on Thanksgiving morning. This initiative has evolved into an annual community tradition that continues to bring together runners of all levels to celebrate the holiday through physical activity and community connection.

What should I know about the race course?

The event uses a loop-based course design where participants complete different numbers of loops depending on their chosen distance. The course is fairly flat but incorporates North Georgia's natural terrain. Water stations are positioned approximately every 1.5 miles throughout the route, and electronic timing is used to record all finishes. The minimum pace requirement is 16 minutes per mile.

What awards are available for participants?

Overall awards are given to the top 3 finishers in both male and female categories, as well as awards for Masters, Senior Masters, and Grand Masters divisions. Age group awards are also available for categories spanning from 10 and under through 75 and older. Finisher medals can be purchased as an additional memento of participation.

Are virtual participation options available?

Yes, virtual options are available for all distances. Virtual participants register and receive a digital bib, then run their chosen distance anywhere they prefer and submit their results online by the end of race day. Virtual race packages are shipped after the event date, and virtual participants also qualify for age group awards.

What is the charity partnership for this event?

The Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer serves as the official charity partner for the Turkey Trot. The organization's focus includes improving access to care and reducing health disparities related to breast cancer.

How can I volunteer for the event?

Volunteers have the opportunity to earn 10 free Five Star races for their participation. Additionally, volunteers who recruit 5 other volunteers and complete a full shift receive a $50 Visa Gift Card as recognition for their efforts.

When and where can I pick up my race packet?

Early packet pickup is available at Chicken Salad Chick in Suwanee, Georgia on November 25 (3:00 PM – 6:00 PM) and November 26 (2:00 PM – 6:00 PM). Race day packet pickup begins at 6:30 AM at the event site. For those unable to pick up in person, a bib mailing option is available for $7, with orders accepted until November 8.
